Frequently asked questions
What's the difference between Automatic and Manual mode, and which one should I use?+

Automatic runs an AI model right in your browser and cuts out the subject with one click. Best for photos with a clear subject like a person or product. Manual gives you a rectangle or freehand lasso tool to trace the area yourself, which works better on tricky images the AI struggles with, or when you want precise control over the crop.

Does my photo get uploaded to remove the background?+

No. In Automatic mode, the AI model itself downloads to your browser the first time you use it (you'll see a progress percentage), but your actual photo is processed locally by a background script afterward and never leaves your device. Manual mode never downloads anything and works fully offline once the page is loaded.

What does the transparency threshold slider in Automatic mode actually do?+

After the AI removes the background, it leaves a soft alpha matte rather than a hard cutout. The slider hardens that matte into transparent or opaque pixels: drag it lower to keep more edge detail (which can leave a faint color fringe), or higher for a cleaner edge that can eat fine detail like loose hair.
